4) THE KIVINIEMI CORNER
There have always been skilled lace-makers in Rauma

The Kiviniemi corner was an area where many a lace-maker lived. The plots along the winding streets were small. The people were less prosperous and they kept several tenants. There were lace-makers among the house owners as well as the tenants.

A long-time tenant of the Wähä-Suutar house was the well known lace-maker Karoliina Wahlberg (1851-1912). She never married and therefore had the possibility to devote herself to lace-making. Especially her fine pieces of corner lace called forth enthusiasm. Karoliina Wahlberg’s pieces of corner lace and their prickings are displayed in the Old Town Hall.
